Guide to Egypt
Welcome to one of the world’s most vibrant, historic, and inspiring destinations! From the timeless Pyramids to buzzing rooftop cafés, Egypt is a land full of beauty and surprises. Here’s everything you need to know to enjoy your stay safely and make the most of your time off-set.
Quick Facts
Language: Arabic (English is widely spoken in modeling, tourism, and retail).
Currency: Egyptian Pound (EGP).
Weather: Warm and sunny most of the year, always use sunscreen and stay hydrated.
Time Zone: GMT +2.
Weekends: Friday and Saturday.
Money & Payments
Cash is still king in many places, especially taxis and small cafés.
ATMs are available almost everywhere; use bank ATMs, not standalone ones.
Always double-check exchange rates if changing money; avoid airport kiosks if possible.
Do not exchange foreign money on the street or use the black market. Exchanging currency outside licensed banks or exchange houses is illegal in Egypt and can lead to serious penalties, including large fines and possible jail time.
What to do instead:
Use banks, ATMs, or licensed currency exchange offices.
Avoid repeated or large informal swaps with strangers, even if it seems convenient. This can still be risky and is best avoided.
Getting Around
Uber and Careem are the safest and easiest way to get around Cairo and Giza.
Avoid hailing taxis on the street, use apps or arrange through the agency.
Traffic can be unpredictable, so always leave early for castings or shoots.
