  • Language: Arabic (English is widely spoken in modeling, tourism, and retail).

  • Currency: Egyptian Pound (EGP).

  • Weather: Warm and sunny most of the year, always use sunscreen and stay hydrated.

  • Time Zone: GMT +2.

  • Weekends: Friday and Saturday.

Money & Payments

  • Cash is still king in many places, especially taxis and small cafés.

  • ATMs are available almost everywhere; use bank ATMs, not standalone ones.

  • Always double-check exchange rates if changing money; avoid airport kiosks if possible.

What to do instead:

  • Use banks, ATMs, or licensed currency exchange offices.

  • Avoid repeated or large informal swaps with strangers, even if it seems convenient. This can still be risky and is best avoided.

Getting Around

  • Uber and Careem are the safest and easiest way to get around Cairo and Giza.

  • Avoid hailing taxis on the street, use apps or arrange through the agency.

  • Traffic can be unpredictable, so always leave early for castings or shoots.

Cairo Festival City (CFC)

  • Best for shopping: international brands, restaurants, and promenade area.

  • Easy to walk around and spend several hours.

U Venues

  • New complex with restaurants, lounges, bakeries and casual dining.

  • Trendy atmosphere and popular with young crowds.

District 5

  • Office and lifestyle hub.

  • Many modern cafés, restaurants, gyms, and boutique shops.

Zamalek

A small island on the Nile with a European feel. Walkable, artistic and stylish.

  • Great Nile views, small galleries, and boutique shops.

  • Luuma on the Nile (make sure to try their fiteer)

  • Many rooftop bars and lounges with views over the city. (check out l'aubergine)

  • Good place for a quiet walk along the river at the promenade.

Giza

Historic and essential to visit.

  • The Pyramids of Giza – one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

  • The Grand Egyptian Museum – the largest archaeological museum in the world (check opening status).

  • Best to visit early morning or late afternoon to avoid heat.

Downtown Cairo

Old Cairo with European-style architecture and historic cafés. Busy but full of character.

  • Café Riche – iconic, over 100 years old.

  • Groppi – classic patisserie with a long history.

  • Khan El Khalili (nearby in Islamic Cairo) – traditional bazaar for souvenirs and local crafts.

  • Tahrir Square and the newly renovated streets around it.

  • Great for photography, local culture, and affordable restaurants.

Cultural Tips

  • Egypt is modern but conservative in some public spaces, dress modestly when not on set.

  • Public displays of affection are not common; avoid kissing or hugging in public areas.

  • When visiting mosques or religious sites: women should cover shoulders and knees, men should avoid shorts.

  • Always ask before taking photos of locals or security areas.

Communication & Internet

  • Recommended SIM cards: Vodafone, Orange, or Etisalat.

  • Data packages are affordable and reliable.

Food & Drink Tips

  • Popular local dishes to try:

Koshary (Egypt’s national comfort food) Falafel (taameya) and Foul (fava beans) Molokhia and grilled kofta Fresh juices and mango and avocado smoothies — must-try! Avoid eating uncooked street food unless recommended by locals or the agency.

  • Egypt is generally safe, but like anywhere, stay alert in crowded places.

  • Keep your belongings close in markets or public transport.
